00s Gucci by Tom Ford ‘Alien’ Padded Cowhide Leather Biker Jacket
On the edge of bankruptcy, the Gucci label was desperate for progressive creative leadership. The year was 1994 and Gucci’s saviour had just left Yves Saint Laurent, embarking on a mission to revive the namesake and rebrand with a breath of new life. Tom Ford was appointed at the helm of Gucci and began to dissect the celebrated values the label was known for. He strayed from leather goods and traditional chic, instead reaching for experiment and modern physique. Void of any creative restraint, Ford ran free, using Gucci’s capabilities to dabble in highly skillful designs and unseen textiles. Tom Ford sold sex and provoked his external audience, demanding onlookers attention with audacious campaigning. While unveiling a new definition of couture, the designer was praised for his fashion forward approach and inventive thinking. While saving the Gucci maison from impending failure, Ford is remembered as a paramount in the fashion industry.
Debuting in the 2000s era under Tom Ford’s reign, this leather moto jacket features alien padded detailing on either shoulder and metallic hardware throughout. Fit with belt accents on the waist, a double sided zipper runs up the torso creating a single paneled silhouette. Opposing traditional perfecto cuts, this leather also opts for a rather form fitting silhouette, sitting tight to the body rather than flaring the collar. Tagged as a size 50 or medium, this gorgeous calfskin leather biker is in pristine condition throughout.
