Kadoya stands tall as the oldest leather jacket manufacturer in Japan. Founded by Shojiro Fukano in 1935, the company’s establishment precedes World War II by 6 years, specializing in repair, dye, and tailoring. The brand has been rooted in Asakusa since debut, and often serviced American soldiers that were stationed in the East. From Tabi’s to obscure dying processes and special requests, customization remains a cornerstone of the brand’s ethos, encourage by staff and tailors alike. Kadoya’s commitment to quality blends effortlessly with an acute eye for design, making for some of Japan’s best outerwear to date.
‘Akira’ released in 1988, is a cyberpunk anime which plays on the futuristics tropes of telepathy and rebellion. Created by Japanese artist Katsuhiro Otomo, the film has played a major role in the development of pop-culture, referenced in music videos like Kanye West’s “Stronger” and Michael Jackson's “Scream”. In celebration of Akira’s 30th anniversary, Kadoya was enlisted to craft special order biker jackets from the film. Imitating the Shōtarō Kaneda’s outwear, they were released in extremely limited quantities, as both cherry red and black renditions. This particular cut features a black two-tone pill on the backside, among ‘Cyberjac’ detailling on the sleeve. A silver K’s Leather nameplate sits as a finishing touch atop the chest, in pair with welt pockets and metallic hardware. Fitting a size large, this piece is in pristine condition throughout.
