90s Yohji Yamamoto Y’s ‘Sideways’ Multi-Pocket Asymmetric Denim

$335.00Price
  • Yohji Yamamoto embarked on his first journey into the vast world of fashion in 1981 under the namesake “Y’s”. Originating as a womenswear line, Y’s was our first look at Yamamoto’s designs in a feminine light, only launching his menswear label three years later in 1984. Yohji Yamamoto Pour Homme debuted, bringing the same draping cuts and gothic palette embraced today, but was highly experimental, and catered towards the eccentrics of the runway. Enter Y’s For Men, a toned, wearable label that cater to a rather conservative persona, rather than the typical “overlord” silhouette associated with Yohji Yamamoto’s designs. Begrudgingly discontinued in 2009, Y’s For Men brought an assortment of gorgeous essentials that still resonate with the Japanese designer’s ethos.

Debuting in the 90s, this pair of jeans epitomizes Yohji Yamamoto’s unique passion for nonconformity. Deconstructing the traditional pant silhouette, he shifts the zipper fly just subtly, creating both mass inconvenience and confusion. By pushing the mechanism to the left, he creates asymmetry in both use and appearance, to then create a swooping pocket towards the crotch area. Accented by a back pocket on jean’s face, Yamamoto attempts to remind the wearer of the jeans at all times during use, contrasting most designers goals of comfort and seemingly invisible tailoring. Fitting a size 32x30, they’re in pristine condition throughout.
