AW00 Helmut Lang ‘Rabbit Fur’ Tan Zippered Trench Coat
Helmut Lang’s Autumn 2000 collection came as a massive 102 look project. Walking a series of minimal yet perfectly elegant fittings, the Austrian designer would experiment with select hues of pink and orange amidst a signature tonal palette, mixing mesh textiles with massively loud furs and exotic leather cuts. Referencing silhouettes from the likes of Balenciaga, for the turn of the millennium, Lang would combine the aesthetics he’d built over the past decade while simultaneously experimenting with bell shaped skirts and razor sharp collars. As one of his most celebrated collections, Autumn 2000 would go down as a pivotal moment in the designer’s career.
Debuting in the Autumn of 2000 as the most celebrated piece of the season, this item comes as one of the most lucrative garments of Helmut Lang’s career. Worn by artist Louise Bourgoise for the last 10 years of her life and used in a shoot for Jennifer Lopez, the jacket is made of 100% rabbit fur, requiring a series of pelts to create. Fit with a double layered collar, metallic lampo zipper and full length silhouette, this piece is in great condition aside from a cut wash tag, fitting a size large.
