AW02 Helmut Lang ‘Moleskin’ Silk Striped Navy Trench Coat

Helmut Lang’s Autumn 2002 collection was a class A example of the Austrian designer’s uniform design philosophy. Fitted entirely in hues of black and white with the exception of select metallic hits, in each look he layered utility-centric garments with ease, all while concealing hidden bondage details. Stacking heaps of fabric atop one another to create a sharp, office ready parallel between workwear and non-traditional expressionism, this season met Wall Street with militaristic sci-fi hues. In all, each dressing maintained strict homogeneity with its peers, yet, in typical Lang fashion, managed to separate themselves as distinctive, runway defying looks.

 

Debuting in look 4/59, this gorgeous trench coat is composed of a deep navy moleskin base and draping silhouette. Adorned with a motif consistently found throughout the collection, a silk stripe runs around the torso, something we’ve seen in previous seasons like AW97 and AW99. Complete with French buttons on the face of the jacket and sleeve cuffs, this piece is tagged as a size small, fitting oversized in great condition.
