Jun Takahashi’s Autumn 2002 collection titled ‘Witches Cell Division’ explored disruptive tropes of antichrist ideologies and transformative robots. Plastering crosses atop velour trousers, bombers and necklaces, the designer was clear in his intent to ignite controversy. In correlation with a discovery of hybrid textiles, Takahashi paired contrasting fabrics with a precise yet effortless approach, allowing for some rather mutinous, franken-esque garments to surface. Furthering the sacrilegious theme, items would read ‘Rebel Gods’ and ‘Heaven Hell’, in a direct mutiny of the Christian religion. Takahashi aimed to provoke the traditions of the fashion circuit, and in doing so, established himself as a respected Japanese creative.
Know as the ‘Rebel Gods’ denim, this pair of jeans showcases inverted lettering just beneath the waist. In a bold white font, the obscure motif is complimented by a hybrid jersey cotton backing, deriving from repurposed crewnecks and sweaters alike. The underside features subtle prints and an asymmetric pocket, the front complete with distressing and a dark wash. In great condition throughout, tagged as a size medium measuring 30x29.5.
