AW08 Number (N)ine x Magical Design ‘Deer’ .925 Silver Necklace
Takahiro Miyashita’s Autumn 2008 collection at the Number (N)ine Maison was titled ‘My Own Private Portland’ in reference to Gus Van Sant's film, "My Own Private Idaho,” starring River Phoenix and Keanu Reeves. As a final farewell to the designer’s undying love for Western style and gritty Americana grunge, this season he’d revive staples of blue collar mediocrity with a trope of rebellion. Bringing life to Pendleton flannels and tonal shearling lined overcoats, Miyashita welcomed the trade worker’s wardrobe with open arms, taking on a challenge unlike something we’d seen before. Hidden in the details, between the tonal patchworking of hunting gear and fisherman’s attire sat staples of revolt, like 40 pocket parkas and distinctly modern, full silver deer paper chain necklaces.
Debuting in the Autumn of 2008, this chain comes as a staple of Miyashita’s rural collection. Fit with a .925 silver base and massive deer pendant, antlers spike outwards in a sporadic fashion, before interlocking with a heavy weight link pattern. Finished with a hook closure locking mechanism, this piece comes in pristine condition throughout, measuring 20 in / 52 cm in length and weighing 198 grams.
