AW12 Yohji Yamamoto ‘69’ Black Wool Y.Y. Knitted Sweater
Yohji Yamamoto’s Autumn 2012 collection at his eponymous label brought volume through the value of choice. Dawning expertly tailored lapels in a series of earth tones, select flares of electric greens and reds would pierce the runway’s tame aesthetic. Walking pieces crafted from blankets, which would later turn into full looks covered in draping, cloak-like accessories, the show was rather tame, in opposition to his highly experimental interests as of recent. Lacking graphics, collaborations or much excitement, instead Yamamoto displayed his masters in craft, designing wearable wardrobe staples with select hints of distinction.
Debuting in the Autumn of 2012, this pieces sits as a black sheep amongst 40 mundane looks. In a black wool base, this sweater is adorned with white contrast numbering, reading ‘69’ across the chest. Referencing the tongue-in-cheek sex position, Yamamoto leans into his outlandish self, cultivating some shock value in the face of serenity. Finalized with signature Y.Y. Lettering on the underside, this sweater has become extremely lucrative, tagged as a size medium in pristine condition throughout.
