AW17 Vetements Femme ‘Total Fucking Darkness’ Pentagram Hoodie

The overarching theme of Demna Gvasilia’s Autumn 2017 collection at Vetements was change. Having mastered the art of graphic design, the hoodie silhouette, and the luxury streetwear market, Gvasilia set out to conquer a new array of silhouettes through an acute lens. Looking to our social uniforms for inspiration, the designer as always began reinterpreting dress codes through ironic, maximalist expression. While straying from his roots, he maintained a core graphic-centric muse, speaking through physical embellishments and movement. Models sporting camo prints were to reveal peace keeping symbols as they turned their backs, similar to the ‘nerd’ who sported a Borbour jacket. Using a heightened comedic medium, Gvasilia was able to invoke an otherwise ignored curiosity, as with change comes new perspective.

 

Debuting in the Autumn of 2017, this hoodie is adorned with most iconic graphic of Demna Gvasilia’s design career. Referencing Britain’s extreme metal band ‘Cradle of Filth’, Gvasilia reinterprets the Vetements logo into a gothic font. On the underside, a Pentagram sits among purple ‘Total Fucking Darkness’ lettering, a direct nod to Filth’s third demo which was recorded in 1992. In fact, perhaps the most unique aspect of this sweater is the silhouette itself, which is intentionally cut to retain the shape of a pentagram when laid. On the sleeve, red text reads ‘Drink From Me And Live Forever’, among an ‘Inhell Exhell’ slogan, meshing with the satanic ethos of this pullover. Finalized with Vetements’ signature embroidered on the brim of the hood, this hoodie is tagged as a size medium and is in pristine condition throughout.
