AW18 John Undercover ‘Joy Division’ Licht und Blindheit Graphic Sweater
For Autumn 2018 Jun Takahashi referenced Joy Division’s 1980 album cover Licht und Blindheit (Light and Blindness). The rather unknown melancholic project carried an impeding theme of death, preceding lead signer Ian Curtis’ suicide by only two months. Leading many fans to comb through lyrics and pinpoint cries for help, we’d hear pleas through the echos of ‘Atmosphere’, which is known as the album’s lead song. Repetitively touching on themes of leaving and walking away, it’s generally speculated that Curtis was using the metaphor to emphasize his growing disdain for life itself. Leaving an incredibly influential mark on not only the music industry but post modernistic punk movements, the ensemble has in turn retained relevancy over forty years later, speaking through the ears of angst-driven youth seeking the raw and unorthodox.
Debuting in the Fall of 2018, this sweater is plastered with Joy Division’s ‘Licht und Blindheit’ album cover. Printed atop a heavy weight base, the crewneck dawns a cloak-like figure with dropped shoulders and reinforced hemlines, accented only by shubbery and blue skies. In pristine condition, this top is tagged as a size large.
