  • Matthew Williams’ Autumn 2019 collection at Alyx was titled ‘Ex Nihilo’. Crafted in part with a photography book that released alongside the showing, the term, shared between each project, translates from Latin to “out of nothing”. For the shoot, American photographer Daniel Shea was behind the lens, capturing the Maison’s many moving parts, “We shot the ore that we use to make our buckles; we shot the factories we work at; we photographed Los Angeles, that kind of spawned out of the desert.” Both the collection and project strived to illustrate Alyx’s shadowed backend, using heavily distressed, utilitarian themes to emphasize such. A tactical, tonal palette came in pair with hits of blossoming cherry red, an abundance of leather, and sheer devotion to tech-wear.

This particular jacket from Alyx’s Fall 2019 collection emphasizes the label’s core ethos. Sporting a deep pile polar fleece exterior, shades of murky green and brown intertwine throughout, making for a muddy camouflage print. An angular 3D cargo pocket is clasped atop the chest with a top loading velcro mechanism, in pair with synching hems and riveted elbows. Completed with a full zip balaclava-style hood, the wearer is ultimately consumed when worn, enduring sub-zero temperatures. Tagged as a size small, this jacket fits massively oversized at a large, in great condition throughout aside from some wear around the pocket.
