Born in Kiryu Japan in 1969, Takahashi started off his fashion career at Bunka Fashion College. After earning a degree, Takahashi launched Nowhere, a retail location in Harajuku. This was done alongside a friend, fellow college roommate, and creative director of Bape, Nigo. In the same year, while operating Nowhere, he began his own cut and sew company Undercover. When questioned in a 2013 Dazed interview, Jun Takahashi outlined the mentality encasing each garment, nodding towards a necessity of expression. He began, “Despite the skeleton and organ motifs, the collection is beautiful and seductive...”, the creative is challenging the human interest between the affinity of beauty, and distaste for ‘ugly’. Takahshi explains, “Ugliness and beauty co-exist in human mentality. I always want to express those emotions.”, and he does so through one of the purest forms of expression, clothing.
