AW21 Undercover x Markus Åkesson ‘Girl with Veil’ Down Puffer Trench

For Jun Takahashi’s Autumn 2021 collection, he drew from the elaborate portfolio of Markus Åkesson. Having worked alongside the Swedish artist seven years prior for Takahashi’s Fall 2014 womenswear showing, it only made sense to inaugurate the creative’s work under a masculine lens. This time, the designer scattered an array of Åkesson’s neo-figurative paintings atop outwear, hoodies and bags, pushing emphasis on his otherworldly designs. Brushing such vibrant tonal hues against deep textiles and brash hardware, each graphic quietly demanded one’s attention as they walked atop the runway. Reinterpreting the paintings through a new light, we’re invited to experience Åkesson’s profile through a fluid medium, engaging with movement and silhouette to pair.

 

Referencing Markus Åkesson’s 2015 oil painting ‘Girl with Veil’, this nylon jacket features an elongated trench silhouette and down fill textile. Plaguing the underside of overcoat, this graphic drapes downwards in an abrasive manner, leeching oceanic hues with contrast to warmer accenting tones. Symmetric welt pockets sit in division with a button down clasping mechanism and flared collar, complete with a smaller graphic on the chest. Tagged as a size large, in pristine condition throughout.
