AW95 Jean Paul Gaultier ‘Comic’ Mad Max Full Print Denim

Jean Paul Gaultier Fall 1995 collection titled ‘Mad Max’ drew from a post-apocalyptic world. Dawning some of the designer’s most lucrative and highly sought after prints, Gaultier would outfit models in tight, cyber-esque body suits while maintaining a distinct attribute of the past. Pushing emphasis towards neon hues, he’d contrast futuristic tropes with highly unconventional gowns and tailored measures, the warlike makeup referencing that of Amazonian women. Debuting a slew of eccentric, tech-based patterns, the showing was far from any sort of normalcy, mixing “techno with tribal” in the words of Gaultier himself. Only furthering the creative’s unparalleled influence on the fashion world, Autumn ‘95 would garner mass infamy as a result.

 

In a trope of the past, French comic prints were found throughout the collection. Telling a smouldering, intergalactic love story between both a man and woman, the graphic is portrayed through a gradient tint of cream, red and eventually lime green. The bottoms debuted in a wide cut, featuring metallic accents throughout among a ‘JPG JEANS’ pull tab. Fitting a size 31x32, in pristine condition throughout.
