AW98 Helmut Lang Cut Out Charcoal Grey Longsleeve Shirt
Debuting in 1988, Helmut Lang’s timeless silhouettes and minimalistic persona has altered the modern expectation of fashion. The designer pushed a mantra of utility rather than beauty, breaking free of the high fashion circuit. His designs filled a void of professional individualism, making way for new caveat of self expression in a white-collar exterior. Through the 90’s and early 2000’s Helmut Lang reignited the image of post-punk rockers, dressing the community in militaristic ‘formal’ attire. Prospering through years of obscure trends and avant-garde thinking, Lang evidently perfected the art of fashion through nineteen years of triumph.
Evident in the long sleeve shown, Helmut Lang toys with the grey area between work and formal wear. Instilling slits on the hem of either sleeve, this garment allows for a beam of individuality to shine through while maintaining a rather professional persona. Although a simple item, this shirt embodies Helmut Lang’s influence well, debuting in the Fall 1998 collection. In great condition throughout, tagged as a size large.
