An idea riding on ingenuity and versatility, the founder of Undercover, Jun Takahashi, created a interchangeable multi-season collective known as “Small Parts”. The title plays on the hyper-functionality of each garment, zippers lining every hem released while allowing for “parts” to be swapped between each other. From jackets to crewnecks, every garment can be stripped and reconstructed in multiple ways, the premise reinterpreted through a plethora of seasons. “Small Parts” can be accredited with the first glimpse of Undercover’s worldwide success, inducted into the Toyko Opera City Art Gallery in 2015.
Printed in a full “digi” or digital camo pattern, the tonal shades of burgundy, deep navy and tan are scattered through in a pixelated manner. Originally developed to provide sight discrepancy over long distance, the camouflage has proved highly effective in urban and remote locations. The digital print has seeped into the hands of archival designers like Raf Simons’ Autumn 2002 “Virgina Creeper” collection, and of course Jun Takahashi’s Autumn 1999 “Small Parts” show. As with all garments deriving from the runway, the jacket is able to be fully deconstructed as zipper lie on every hem. Allowing for interchangeable sleeves, hoods or even paneling, other garments can be used to invent new pieces. Lined with a thick padding, the interior is heat retentive, and extremely comfortable. In great condition throughout, fitting a size large.
