AW99 Undercover Small Parts Siouxsie and the Banshees “SLIME” Crewneck
An idea riding on ingenuity, the founder of Undercover, Jun Takahashi—created a interchangeable, multi-season collective he called “Small Parts”. The title plays on the hyper-functionality of each garment, zippers lining each hem to allow for “parts” to be swapped. The modernistic approach blends a feeling of streetwear with the heightened thought process Takahashi frequents. Not only did Small Parts become a gold mine of archival pieces, it proved the young designer’s technical ability in the early stages.
Paying homage to the British rock band ‘Siouxsie and the Banshees”, this crewneck depicts lead singer Siouxsie Sioux in an iconic still. Formed in 1976 alongside bass guitarist Steven Severin, guitarist Marco Pirroni and drummer, Sid Vicious, the ensemble transcended the emerging gothic scene through hypnotic melodies and a sound reminiscent of the new wave rebellion. Electric riffs and a daring regard to experiment insisted a cult-like following, helping to shape the contemporaries of the modern age.
Takahashi closely resonating with the love for experimentation found in the Banshee’s music (along with a root in punk of course) - he embeds a portrait of Siouxsie herself atop this garment. Following suit with the Small Parts collection, zippers line every seam and the piece is fully dismantled into four individual pieces. Separating at the collar, sleeves, front and back panel, the item can be paired with a multitude of garments and is thus endlessly in style. The original assembly consists of a blue cotton base, zippered hems and a graphic reading “SLIME”. In pristine condition, tagged as a medium, fitting up to a large.
