Debuting in 2008, founded by Yujiro Komatsu, Blackmeans has swiftly become an icon of rebellion and freedom. Frequently paying homage to the 70’s punk rock aesthetic, Komatsu himself is a fierce advocate for self-expression. Exemplified in his work, colours and abstract design techniques are common—setting the radical brand apart from the rest. Blackmeans has perfected the art of leatherwork and craftsmanship, forging each garment by hand in the surrounding streets of Japan.
Remaining an oddity from the hide-centric brand, Blackmeans on occasion produces garments that mesh with their defiant ethos. Although these pieces are few and far between, they exemplify Komatsu’s expertise in fashion as a whole, opposed to merely leatherwork. Paying homage to the punk movement that overthrew London, England in the 1970’s, the sweater showcased makes use of Blackmeans vibrancy. Contrasting black, white and a fluorescent magenta, the stark disparity and accenting colour creates a highly unique item. The lack of seams or structure of any sort allow the longsleeve to conform to the body and reveal such, as a result of the loose weave. Fitting a size medium, in great condition throughout.
