Following the legacy of Hedi Slimane, Kris Van Assche was tasked with living up to an astronomical standard taking the helm of Dior in ‘07. Reigning director for the next decade, Assche refined the skinny cut Slimane introduced, brought sportswear to the house, and of course, brought new faces like A$AP Rocky to the face of Dior. For eleven unprecedented years, the Belgian designer pushed Christian Dior in a forward manner, always sampling ideas from musical and other artistic mediums. He updated the rather elegant persona of Dior Homme, implementing a new age of cuts and streetwear tropes into the brand’s umbrella. Kris Van Assche changed Dior in an unforgettable way, forever celebrated in the modern age.
Released in the fall 2008 collection, Assche embellishes - stitch by stitch, a translucent counterpart to the wool base. Assimilating to create a “broken heart” motif, the mosaic figure is reminiscent of Slimane’s Spring ‘02 “gunshot” silhouettes, in which a similar technique was used. The core weave resides as a deep purple hue, contrasting wonderfully against the monochromatic embellishment. Fitting a true medium, in great condition throughout.
