Virgil Abloh’s Fall 2019 collection titled “Public Television” provided insight on the effects of pervasive advertising. Painting the runway a lime green hue, from above images were overlayed to a worldwide livestream. Repurposing the runway as a green screen, the catwalk would soon house sounds from Wu-Tang’s Ghostface Killah and Mr.Roger, broadcasted to millions abroad. Setting the digitized theme, garments were anxiously defaced while shipping labels sat atop model’s wrists. Abloh plays on our consumer habits with angst, showcasing our nearing future with dystopian garments.
Walked by Playboi Carti in look 46/48, this knitted sweater has amassed notoriety in the archive community. Known as the ‘Factory’ knit as a result of the negative graphic placed on both the front and back, a neon green “Off-White” logo plagues the chest. Lettering reads “Fall-Winter 19-20” alongside “©2013”, cut with a draping, wide body and elongated sleeves. Composed of a heavy weight black wool textile, in new with tags condition fitting a size large.
