FW21 Vetements ‘Think While It’s Legal’ Slogan Graphic T-Shirt

Demna Gvasilia’s Autumn 2021 collection played on tropes of controversy and debate. Through 165 looks, the designer challenged political ideals in a look book format, altering the background to project a desired aesthetic. The collection opened with a firey backdrop, representing the depths of hell with abrasive, blacked out silhouettes. Pulled from the likes of BDSM and bondage-wear, Gvasilia encased models in balaclavas, chains and belts, sporting Anarchy symbols while projecting an authoritative aura. Then transitioning to a neutral palette in the foreground of a waterfall, slogan tees and logo spin-offs plagued hoodies in bold text. Accented by neon hues and animal prints, this segment represented the collection’s middle ground, Earth, before arriving at heaven’s gates. In front of glaring rays, models stood at this season’s finale, doubling as the smallest portion of looks. Dressed to impress, here we’d see our first glimpse of tailoring, in pair with structured profiles and bellowing bottoms. Despite such contrast between segments, Gvasilia retained utmost congruency in each respective third, encouraging his audience to challenge and provoke.

 

Released in a limited edition run, this t-shirt, a stand out of the collection, sports lettering on the chest and graphic on the underside. Reading ‘Think While It’s Still Legal’, Gvasilia encases the phrase in a spin-off campaign ad, mocking America’s political sphere with focus on free speech. In a similar light, the designer creates a distorted CIA logo for the t-shirt’s back, encircling an American Bald Eagle with lettering that reads ‘Global Intelligence Vetements’. Finalized with embroidery just beneath the collar, tagged as a size large in pristine condition throughout.
