SS04 Dior by Hedi Slimane ‘Strip’ Distressed Waxed Skinny Denim
Hedi Slimane’s Spring 2004 collection at Dior was titled ‘Strip’ and has since become renown for its unparalleled influence on pop-culture and contemporary style. Channeling rock icons like Iggy Pop, Mick Jagger and Sid Vicious, he’d debut a series of unbreathable silhouettes, in spite of the industry’s growing allure for baggy Y2K style. Shifting the paradigm of what was considered a ‘favourable’ male physique, Slimane’s eye for skin tight denim, torso hugging sweaters, and a surplus in leather boots would quickly grow to dominate the era’s wide-cut profiles. Paying homage to rock figures who were widely known for their unapologetic androgyny and stylistic flare, the French designer would elongate denim inseams in light of elegantly cut biker jackets and signature design markings.
Debuting in the Spring of 2004, these waxed bottoms retain utmost prominence within Hedi Slimane’s reign at Dior. Known as the ‘Strip’ denim, not only do they epitomize the designer’s distinctive understanding of slim fitting cuts, but incorporate a blaze of unique distressing and a waxed base. Fitted with metallic hardware and a strikingly long silhouette, the jeans feature distressing along either leg, Dior emblems and a tight fit. Fitting a size 30x36, they’re in great condition throughout aside from alterations done by the previous owner on the out seam, making the waistband larger than originally tailored and a missing button clasp loop.
