SS04 Yohji Yamamoto Y-3 X Adidas 65/100 ‘Three Stripe’ Spotted Horse Denim

Yohji Yamamoto’s collaborative effort with Adidas began in the 2003. Under the namesake ‘Y-3’, a play on the sportswear label’s three stripes and the Y in Yamamoto, together they’d bring affluence to the activewear sector. Inaugurating Adidas as an official runway label, we’d watch as classic silhouettes were reinvented atop the catwalk. Making waves, Yamamoto, who was previously unacquainted with denim of any sort, would enlist Spotted Horse Craft, one of Japan’s most prestigious jean-centric tailors in the East to produce all the collection’s denim. Breathing new life into the namesake label, together Adidas, Spotted Horse and Yohji would unify the old with the new, as new beginnings unfurled at the grips of both sport and runway fashion. Throughout the stint, Yamamoto’s background would come in pair with Adidas’ unparalleled manufacturing capabilities, making for tech-centric staples, high fashion dresses and revolutionary marketing tactics. Continuing to dominate in its entirely unique domain, Y-3 alters our perceptions of activewear time and time again.

 

Debuting in the Spring of 2004, this pair of denim comes in collaboration Spotted Horse Craft, a denim production company founded by Hideki Ozono. In a tasteful washed blue, white perforated leather three striped detailing runs along the outseam of the jeans, emerging from the waistband and finishing along the bottom hem. Red selvedge striping is then found on the interior accenting the bottom’s yellow contrasting stitching. Referenced for Balenciaga’s recent collaboration with Adidas, these jeans have become incredibly lucrative as a result, not only for their fit, but influence on contemporary design. In a wide, baggy cut, they’re finalized with a leather Y-3 branded jacron label, and metallic hardware throughout. Released in an extremely limited quantity of 100, this pair is label as 65/100, fitting a size 33x31 in great condition aside from heel drag.
