SS05 Helmut Lang ‘Swiss’ White Floral Print Flared Denim

Helmut Lang’s Spring 2005 collection was inspired by a call from Bill Murray. Upon special request, Lang was to create a custom suit in pair with sailor’s pants for his appearance at the Oscar’s. While the outfit was exception as always, the order had inspired the creative to raise his sail and embark on a nautical journey. What followed was a slew of navy and white garments, all of which were outfitted with ropes, stripes and occasional fishnet textiles. Draping silhouettes loosely encompassed the maritime man, keeping the season concise - this is except for the transparent and floral jeans… and possibly the goat fur loafers. Spring of 2005 would also mark Helmut Lang’s finale at the helm of his namesake, setting sail to embark on new endeavours.

 

Residing as a wildly radical, acute pair of denim, these floral jeans stray far from the minimalistic persona Helmut Lang popularized. Featuring a Swiss floral print, the vibrant, saturated hues of each botanical appear to leach from a white cotton base. Metallic fittings are embedded into the fabric with stark contrast, accentuating the wide array of playful colouring. Remaining in great condition over two decades since debut, the bottoms fit a size 29x31.
