SS05 Undercover ‘But Beautiful’ 60 Red Stitch Patchwork Denim

Jun Takahashi’s Spring 2005 collection titled ‘But Beautiful’ guided viewers through a seemingly incomplete collection filled with mystery and imagination. Referencing three of Czech filmmaker Jan Svankmajer’s clay works; Alice, Jabberownky and Food, the show was presented in the deteriorating Theatre de Buf, which reflected Takahashi’s collection effortlessly. Affixing distressed and dilapidated garments atop doll-like figures, each model would portray characters from the films in unique and ingenious ways. Putting focus on abstract hairstyles which featured objects like forks, bird cages and branches, this season’s theme was mysterious and whimsical, as if each character had just awoken from a parallel reality. Composed almost entirely of lace textiles and draping cuts, this season would ironically emit an arts craft aesthetic, despite predating the Autumn 2005 ‘Arts & Crafts’ collection.

 

Debuting in the Spring of 2005, this incredible pair of denim dubbed the ‘60’ jeans come in a distressed, elongated silhouette. Named after their original price tag of ¥60,000, they feature red stitch detailing towards the bottom hem and Patti Smith’s iconic lightning bolt motif embroidered on the knee. Reworked patches sit on the underside along with slash detailing on either shin, stacking atop any boot or sneaker effortlessly as a result of an inch inseam and inch waist, in great condition throughout.
