SS06 Dolce & Gabbana “Wake Up” Poem Thrashed Light Wash Denim

Dolce & Gabbana’s step into the new millennia was refreshing by all accounts. Introducing silhouettes akin to utility, the label immersed themselves under a militaristic persona. Popularized by designers like Helmut Lang, the tactical revolt provided a new take on utilitarian traditions. Incorporating luxury furs and expert tailoring, founders Stefano Gabbana and Domenico Dolce unapologetically pushed the envelope, straying far from their classic Italian roots. In the heat of the anti-fashion movement, experiment was encouraged and Gabbana embraced it. Using their power as an established maison, the duo was able to create timeless staples, regarded as the brand’s “golden era”.

 

Debuting in the Spring of 2006, this pair of denim features thrashed distressing and an underlying poem. Released in an assortment of colour variations, these cotton candy jeans clash a hue of hot pink with light wash jean. The lettering is fragmented form afar by rouge strands of denim, and when looking close, become progressively distorted as they’re read. Either stanza is composed of incoherent gibberish, stating “Wny do wake up do you… you she we not young she drink the they”. While their true sentiment remains unknown, Dolce & Gabbana leaves us with a gorgeous take on the classic poem silhouette popularized by Junya Watanabe. Fitting a size 35x30, in great condition throughout.
