SS10 Dior Homme by Kris Van Aschee Leather Back Lace Sneakers
Following the legacy of Hedi Slimane, Kris Van Assche was tasked with living up to an astronomical standard taking the helm of Dior in ‘07. Reigning director for the next decade, Assche refined the skinny cut Slimane introduced, brought sportswear to the house, and of course, brought new faces like A$AP Rocky to the face of Dior. For eleven unprecedented years, the Belgian designer pushed Christian Dior in a forward manner, always sampling ideas from musical and other artistic mediums. He updated the rather elegant persona of Dior Homme, implementing a new age of cuts and streetwear tropes into the brand’s umbrella. Kris Van Assche changed Dior in an unforgettable way, forever celebrated in the modern age.
Released in the Spring 2010 collection, Aschee brought an array of new footwear silhouettes, exaggerated cuts, and a modernist approach to the runway. Paralleling Slimane’s slim fitting, waif figure, the creative was in discovery of a new identity for Dior Homme, and was successful in finding a new, looser persona. Exemplified in the footwear shown, Aschee pulls from a wider sole - the high top sneaker, refreshing our palette from Hedi Slimane’s heavy use of combat boots. Eccentric nonetheless, a lacing system is implemented in an ambitious way, wrapping around the entire neck of the shoe. Weaving under the zippered back, metallic hardware meets the cold hues of white leather, as embossed branding sits subtly. In used condition, tagged as a size 41 or US 8.
