SS10 Undercover 68 Orange Yarn Sashiko Stitch Distressed Denim
Originally releasing in the Autumn 2004 “But Beautiful” collection, the 68 style denim has gained top tier notoriety among fashion enthusiasts alike. The ensemble of multi-coloured yarn is carefully weaved into a thrashed dirt wash base, creating a distinguishing sense of individuality. The jeans are carefully embroidered with both traditional Japanese Sashiko stitching and Undercover’s signature Patti Smith lightning bolt emblem. Jun Takahashi implements the motif atop the right knee of the denim, paying homage to Smith’s identical tattoo. The lightning bolt symbolizes a humble mindset, disregarding the urge to boast or become greedy. In contrast to the original retail price of $68.00 (hence the name), the Undercover 68 denim has ironically excelled to unprecedented heights in the second hand market.
Re-editions followed the debut of the classic 68 silhouette in the Spring 2010 collection, refining key attributes of the garment like the patch working and stitching techniques. Ranging from hues of orange, red, blue and green colour ways, the most sought after of such lies in the seams of woven orange yarn. Intentional grease stains add to the weathered look, traces of reconstruction blatant throughout. Tagged as a size 2 or medium, this denim fits a size 30x28 in great condition throughout.
