For Supreme Spring 2017 collection, the New York streetwear label enlisted photographer Jim Krantz as a collaborator. Famed for his cinematic visuals of the authentic West, Krantz’s romanticized vast American landscapes in pair with their inhabitants. Working under Marlboro throughout the 90s, Krantz would shift our perceptions of the modern day cowboy, emphasizing a distinct understanding of shape, pigment and framing. The photographer’s work was publicly ripped off by appropriation artist Richard Prince, which was on display during exhibition without credit or royalties when an image was sold for $6 million USD. While imitation is the purest form of flattery, such precision and skill is simply inimitable.
Debuting in the Spring of 2017, this jacket references Jim Krantz’s 2010 ‘Cowboys’ series. Among a slew of landscape imagery stands the collection’s focal point, which doubles as the jacket’s print. In the foreground of a scenic landscape stands a shadowed cowboy in full pursuit. His riding crop flies in the air as he dashes onwards, drawing the eye to deep hues of sky blue and lime green. In pair with a Supreme embellishment on the pocket and metallic hardware, to finish, the jacket is cut along the waist line and finished with elongated sleeves. Tagged as a size small, in pristine condition throughout.
