SS18 Prada Camp Collar Button Up Comic Shirt
The Prada Spring Summer 2018 collection was brought to fruition through the intricate strokes of Tarpe Mills, Fiona Staples and Trina Robins. Miuccia Prada dug through the archives of these talented cartoonists and manga artists to create a stunning array of imagery. She pairs the “virtual reality” and “reality of the human part” atop garments, splitting many with harsh patterning and intricate design work. Prada states she was attracted to the design medium as “they are hand drawn, human simple and real...”, she then continues, “They are little fragments of life which is what you get now from... the media”. Miuccia Prada bridges the gap between our technological lives and reality, creating a wearable representation of our split social identity and real life persona. She does so in an introspective way, symbolizing that the electronic presence is now an extension of the human reputation. She walks models down the runway, demonstrating the wearer’s own social and virtual divide, she allows the viewer to think on a deeper level in typical Miuccia Prada fashion.
This specific garment is a beautiful representation of the principles upholding the collection. The button up breaches the slate white base with a comic print, lining every inch with colourful motifs. Distorted branding and animated characters sit in harmony, basing each cartoon with hues of green, blue and yellow. Tagged as an oversized medium, this item fits closer to a men’s large and is in phenomenal condition overall.
