SS19 Dries Van Noten Mesh Loose Knit Raw Hem Longsleeve Shirt
Dries Van Noten, born in Antwerp - 1958, is a crucial member of the influential Antwerp Six alumni that dominated the mid 1980’s onward. Known for his androgynous cuts and assertive patterns, Van Noten has remained true to his roots over thirty years of design. A third generation tailor, the Belgian designer consciously decided to rebel against the new wave of abstract fashion, instead threading the intricacies of both mens and womenswear. Over the course of 120+ collections, Van Noten has established an expertise in the field of delineation, colour and subtly, allowing each viewer to appreciate his work for what it is - nothing more. Dries Van Noten portrays a catalyst of minimalism in the face of complex fashion we see today, disregarding the expectation of sincere art in the pursuit of a perfected garment. The artist defines himself through the art of the indistinct, taking an altered approach to modern fashion in a traditional lens.
Walking the runway in the Spring 2019 collection, this fishnet longsleeve comes in a geometric loose knit weave. Each hem sits raw, void of a finalizing seam to emulate a distressed, grunge-esque aesthetic. Fitting tight to the body, the garment’s intricate technique adds depth and volume, creating a third dimension when worn as well. In pristine condition overall, fitting an undersized large, or true medium.
