  • For Virgil Abloh’s Spring 2019 collection under the Off-White label, he referenced a series of Édourad Manet paintings. Among such was the infamous ‘Claude Monet Painting in his Studio’, which appears in the graphic denim above. While often confused, Manet and Monet were two prolific French artists during the 19th century, both of which were friends yet entirely different in style. Manet was far from an Impressionist, who chose to work “in dialog with history, always confronting modernity and tradition”, whereas Monet opted to shift his focus towards fleeting moments, a more playful approach per se. In the painting above, Manet illustrates Monet in his advantageous studio, a boat, demonstrating the parallel between either’s style. Crafted in 1874 on an oil canvas, this piece was one of many produced over a summer Monet and Manet spent together.

Debuting in the Spring of 2019, this pair of jeans comes in a teal denim cut. Coating the exterior, Manet’s ‘Claude Monet Painting in his Studio’ encircles either leg amidst Off-White branding. Leaching down towards the bottom hem and waistband, just beneath sits a light wash indigo base, revealed in select details like the interior pockets. Finished with a Jacron patch on the underside, among metallic detailing throughout, fitting a size 34x32.5 in pristine condition throughout.
