Raf Simons’ Spring 2020 collection came as a critique of the Western world. Models walked while a booming voice echoed through concrete walls, speaking to critical ideals with phrases like “Big lie...media America, corporate America...fascist America.” Despite his often perplexing and reference coated shows, this runway’s message was rather clear. The designer appeared to be calling upon the populous, demanding confrontation in regard to systemic issues, using deranged, audacious cuts as his muse. Leather bikers and tees sported graphics reading “STON(E)D AMERICA” among “My Own Private Antwerp”, a parallel between the two continents Simons’ has recently inhabited. Lab coats and latex gloves sat with shorts, blazers and calf-high boots, adding to the incongruent aesthetic he opted for. Perhaps the sporadic look was a stance on America’s increasingly hectic political situation, or one on the population itself.
A focal point of the Spring ‘20 collection, these double layered bottoms are an unexpected take on the traditional denim cut. Stacking a hue of magenta jean beneath the black textile, thrashed distressing illustrates an destroyed look. Paired with metallic accents and a stacked cut, this unique pair of denim offers a splash of pigment (and unorthodox) in one’s rotation. In great condition throughout, fitting a size 32x36.
