  • SS20 Rick Owens ‘Megalace’ Tecuatl Multi Colour Light Jacket

Rick Owens’ Spring 2020 collection titled ‘Teruatl’ took to the designer’s Southern roots in Mexico, exploring his long-neglected heritage just past the border. Having recently travelled to his mother’s homeland for the first time in 30 years, Owens’ attempted to showcase the obscure relationship between himself and his ancestors. The title, a derivative of his Grandmother’s maiden name, was just one of the many aspects that defined this collection. From a striking yellow palette to an array of relaxed fittings, we were pleasantly greeted with very wearable pieces, a stark contrast to many of Owens’ maximalist showings. Now, that’s not to say there weren’t some hits of absurdity, found in Kiss Heels and Megalace bottoms, but would it even be a Rick show with some ridiculousness? Besides utilitarian design was all the rage this season, and Owens was here to prove it.

Retaining an unprecedented stature among Rick Owens’ portfolio, this ‘Megalace’ jacket sits as a highly illusive portrayal of the designer’s reign. Coming in the alternative, multi-coloured silhouette, sporadic lace detailing weaves through the outer sleeve and shoulder, following to the underside as well. Complete with metallic hardware, a dagger collar flares outwards, complimenting the form fitting cut and paneling throughout. In new condition, fitting a mens size small.
