SS20 Undercover Cindy Sherman Coarse Denim Trench Coat

The Spring Summer 2020 collection titled “I hold a beast, an angel and a madman in me”, instantly gained top tier status among fashion critics. Jun Takahashi, the founder of Undercover, drew from a plethora of sources to create one of the most complex collections of the decade, unapologetically surpassing all expectations while doing so. Strategically utilizing the title “I hold a beast, an angel and a madman in me”, Takahshi conveys his jack of all trades persona. It becomes evident he intends to hammer home his legendary status as a designer, once and for all.

 

Clashing the worlds between modern design and conventional tailoring practices, the Japanese Designer creates a narrative like no other. He reaches for elegant, luxury textiles, each crafting innovative silhouettes and reimagining the Undercover label. Takahashi pushes his boundaries, debuting unprecedented items and setting a standard for the Harajuku scene. From diligently tapered blazers to graphic t-shirts, he encapsulates and presents work built upon three decades of expertise.The trench coat shown is undoubtedly one of the most capsulating pieces from the entire show. Coming in a speckled grey denim, the jacket features the original Untitled #26 image, stemming from Sherman's first publications - ‘Untitled Film Stills’. With hands pressed to her cheeks, and fingernails dragging down her cheekbones, Sherman's self portrait (#26) displays a frightened young woman wearing nothing but a nightgown. Drowned out by the murky background, Sherman masterfully conveys the feeling of distress and vulnerability through a singular photo. Coming in an extremely rare size 4, this coat comes brand new with tags and is in pristine overall condition with no flaws whatsoever.
