SS21 Balenciaga Thrashed ‘Bernie Sanders’ Double Layered Hoodie

Inaugurated as Balenciaga’s creative director back in 2015, Demna Gvasilia has continued to rework our perceptions of an age-old maison. Playing on tropes of irony, his work explores the traditions of silhouette, while pushing for innovation both technologically and in premise. Having collaborated with obscure partners like Fortnite and Gucci, Gvasilia has evidently rewritten the rules of high fashion, despite drastic push-back from media outlets and the general public. Having mastered the art of shock-centric marketing, Balenciaga dominates the contemporary fashion market through storytelling and expert graphic design work. Paving the way for a new generation of creative’s, his work is nothing short of a masterclass in creative direction.

 

Debuting in the Spring of 2021, this sweater sports one of Gvasilia’s most iconic motifs, the so-called Bernie Sanders ‘Campaign’ logo. Initially, the three stripe symbol was seen throughout the Senator’s presidential run, and was only interpreted by Demna himself a year later. Replacing Sander’s last name with Balenciaga spell-out lettering, he was quoted saying the logo “was inspired by [all things] corporate,”. Having plastered the motif on all things Balenciaga, for Spring ‘21 he’d layer it atop an ash grey longsleeve to create an extremely heavyweight hoodie. With a knitted overcoat, the Campaign is found on both the chest and underside, in pair with thrashed distressing throughout. Deteriorating through use, the oversized sweater is additionally meant to demonstrate age, and does so effortlessly. Tagged as a size extra-large, this hoodie is in great condition aside from obvious distressing, and fits oversized.
