For KidSuper’s Spring 2023 collection, Colm Dillane, the label’s founder and creative director, strived to bridge the gap between runway and audience. Astonished by such a divide between the two parallels, Dillane created a multi-faceted auction style presentation for the first time in fashion history. He would create 25 elaborate hand painted works with an oil-based composite, inspiring the collection in its entirety. Allowing viewers to bid on each painting as models walked down the runway, Christie’s auctioneer Lydia Fenet would incur astonishingly high bids ranging from $10,000-210,000 USD. In the end, high rollers such as Westside Gunn, Russ, Mike Amiri, G-Eazy and Alexandre Arnault would walk home with pieces, amassing $529,000 in a span of 58 minutes. As the closing look, a painted model would walk through the final illustration, transforming the canvas into a tulle pentimento dress.
In light of such fine arts, this pair of denim pays homage to KidSuper’s delectable performance. A collage of faces saturates the textile with metallic accents and white contrast stitching. Subtle details such as a white dog and an embroidered superhero sit among each profile, effortlessly completing the denim. Fitting a size 33x28 with an 11.5 inch rise, in great condition throughout.
