Jean Paul Gaultier is a French designer who has mastered the art of proclamation. The creative founded his menswear label in 1984, pushing societal boundaries from the beginning. Gaultier consciously reconstructed our ideals of masculine beauty, and experimented without remorse. Utilizing rebellious textiles, he conveyed his message through inventive mediums, cuts and silhouettes, rewriting the industry rules while stomping on preconceived notions.

Illustrating an upside down X-ray of the human body, an equally transparent skull lurks in the background among Latin text. Deriving from the book “De Architectura” by Roman architect Vitruvius, the lettering depicts his theory of structural beauty, using the human body as his muse. The text would later inspire Da Vinci’s “The Vitruvian Man”, a book which would seek connection from the universe and human anatomy once more. This explains Gaultier’s anatomical depiction, and grid like patterning featured. Composed of Gaultier’s iconic “tattoo” mesh textile, tagged as a size 48, in pristine condition throughout.
