SS98 Jean Paul Gaultier ‘Bedouins’ Mesh Tattoo Longsleeve Shirt
Jean Paul Gaultier is a French designer who has rewrote the industry rules since inception in 1976. Founding his menswear label years later in 1984, the artisan was instantly plagued as “l’enfant terrible” for his outlandish, inexcusable designs. Consciously reconstructing our vision of beauty, he experimented without remorse, pulling from the likes of taboo niches. Utilizing rebellious textiles, Gaultier conveyed his message through inventive mediums, popularizing the mesh full print silhouette. He stomped on guidelines in pursuit of creative expression and was successful in doing so, hailed as a fashion forefather and true Magnus opus in his field.
To commentate Gaultier’s Couture collection, the designer hand picked an array of imagery that would celebrate the Age of Enlightenment. This period spanned the better part of the 18th century, leading philosophers and authority to question our preconceived beliefs in pursuit of scientific backing. Jean Paul Gaultier released an array of garments featuring monumental imagery, such as the ‘Bedouins’ print shown above. Depicting the ancient Arab nomadic settlers in a tonal hue, this full print longsleeve remains the most sought after from the Spring 1998 runway show. Tagged as a size medium, in great condition throughout.
