Brian Hugh Warner - prominently known as Marilyn Manson, is an American singer and lead vocalist for ‘the band with the same name’. Most notable for his musical career through the mid-late 90’s, satanism and motifs of loom widely dominated his persona and became cohesive with his namesake. Gore-like ideals were prominent in his artistic method, haunting depictions of murder and death commonly found in each song. Growing up in a hostile environment, Marilyn’s yearn for alienation is further rationalized and makes sense of his detest for societal beliefs. Much of his trauma was glamourized into the attributes praised today, his individuality a direct correlation to a suppressive atmosphere. The gothic left the music industry in 1989 after a persistent feeling of suffocation under his own name, moving into endeavours such as acting years later. In the modern day Marilyn Manson has become a pop-culture icon for his unique views and perceptions, recently seen on projects like Kanye West’s DONDA.

 

Much like Marilyn Manson, Jean Paul Gaultier has always been a catalyst for the push in societal conformity and artistic expression. Gaultier was aware of the singer’s cultural influence and has continued to implement concepts popularized by the him in fashion’s regard. Even in more recent years, such as the Autumn 2014 collection, a symbol of the vocalist’s reign walked the runway in the form of flamboyant eyeshadow. However, the largest portrayal of Marilyn Manson falls victim to the garment shown.
