SS99 Undercover ‘GROUPIE’ Relief Stamped Slate Grey Jumpsuit

$285.00Price
  • Jun Takahashi’s Spring 1999 collection marked the beginning of Undercover’s cult-like following. Titled ‘Relief’, this season would become one of the earliest examples of Takahashi’s experimental and boundary pushing ideologies.
This year, he’d centre his work around the phrase ‘Groupie’, a term coined by rock bands during the height of fan idolization to describe die-hard, often female fans, who would tour alongside celebrities in the hopes of meeting, or establishing sexual relationships with band members. Plastering ‘GROUPIE’ on a series of one-off prisoner coverall suits, hoodies and button-ups with a stamping mechanism, he’d also promote phrases like “I’m an Undercover Groupie” along with other expressions, as a direct irony to the followers of Undercover itself.

As one of the most iconic pieces from Jun Takahashi’s Spring 1999 ‘Relief’ collection, this jumpsuit references traditional prisoner uniforms. Flipping the ‘Groupie’ motif across the chest, when looking in the mirror, the phrase reverses, possessing the wearer. Fit with metallic hardware and a full body cut, pockets are found on either side of the chest, in pair with belt loops along the waist. Tagged as a size medium, measuring a size 40 on the waist the inseam is a 30, in great condition throughout.
