Yohji Yamamoto, nearly 50 years since establishment, still reigns as the king of black, monochromatic palettes. Provoking the anti-fashion movement throughout the 70’s alongside romantic partner and designer, Rei Kawakubo, Yamamoto has worked and succeeded in redefining contemporary fashion. In use of billowing silhouettes, the core constructs of the designer’s process ring true to his roots, compounding in development over decades of refinement. Yamamoto - still chief of design, continues to bring inventive, intriguing, yet distant walks atop the runway, garnering a cult-like following as a result of such.
Featuring the now infamous back-zip closure popularized by Belgian designer Dries Van Noten, this trench coat capitalizes on it’s minimalistic persona with metallic accenting. By creating such a subtle, simplistic silhouette, the eye-catching clasp is highly apparent when parted. However, when zipped, the mechanism sits discreetly behind a French fold. Artistry is found in the cut, textile and production aspects of this item, following suit with Yohji Yamamoto’s design mantra. Fitting a size medium, in pristine condition throughout.
