ISSEY MIYAKE/ISSEY SPORT
Put mildly, Issey Miyake is an experimental persona. For decades, Miyake has been obsessively pushing the physical boundaries of craftsmanship. From the ever-evolving main label, to the architectural feat that is Homme Plisse, the genius of Issey Miyake is undeniable. He reaps a never ending stream of curiosity, the creative always working with new ideologies and movement within fashion.
Issey Sport, a departure from Issey Miyake’s main line, has differed the lines between avant-garde and streetwear. The dawn of Issey Sport dates back to 1977, massively accredited to the inception of Japanese designer Chisato Tsumori. Recently graduating from the noteworthy Bunka Fashion School, Tsumori eagerly gripped the Sport line, successfully marketing the Issey Miyake derivative to a select, youthful audience. Employing relaxed silhouettes and ubiquitous motifs, the sub-genre slowly became a self-distinguished phenomenon. Paving the way for high end streetwear labels of the modern age, Sport harboured and redefined social class within fashion.
